Pokemon stats and facts
Lucario is Pokemon number 448 in the national dex and the Aura Pokemon of Generation 4. It carries the Fighting and Steel dual type on a 525 base stat total, and it is the last stage of its line: Riolu walks in, Lucario walks out, and that is the whole family. Steadfast and Inner Focus are the standard abilities and Justified takes the hidden slot. One region, two stages, and a design famous enough to star in a movie before its games even existed.
Defensively the pairing is quietly excellent: Fighting and Steel between them resist most of the common attacking types, and the list runs eight names long — Normal, Grass, Ice, Bug, Rock, Dragon, Dark and Steel. Only three types break through: Fire, Fighting and Ground. And Poison does not merely bounce off, it does nothing at all — one of the cleanest free switch-ins in the dex.
The two halves of the typing cover different threats — Steel handles the Fairies, Dragons and Ice that would otherwise worry a Fighter, while Fighting answers the Normal and Rock types that expect a Steel matchup to be easy. What is left over is three weaknesses (Fire, Fighting and Ground) and one full immunity to Poison. It is about as tidy as a defensive profile gets without being a legendary. That kind of coverage is rare on a mid-tier spread, and it is half the reason the line stays a fan favorite.
The stats make the same argument as the typing. Sp. Atk 115 is the highest number on the card and Attack 110 is right behind it — a rare spread where the Pokemon genuinely can run either side, though the special edge and the Steel typing tilt the default toward ranged. Put the typing and the numbers together and the job is clear: a mixed attacker that leans special until the matchup says otherwise.
Read the six numbers: 70 HP, 110 Attack, 70 Defense, 115 Sp. Atk, 70 Sp. Def, 90 Speed. There is a deliberate symmetry to it — three numbers at 70, two at the top past a hundred — and the shape says flexible: enough power to hit from either side, not enough bulk to survive being careless. The 90 Speed is the deciding number in most fights: it outspeeds the heavies and loses to the dedicated speedsters. Nothing here is wasted and nothing here is padded — it is a specialist's toolkit carrying a generalist's options.
At 90 Speed it lives in the middle of the field: faster than the walls, slower than the dedicated sweepers, which makes every fight a matchup decision rather than a guarantee. The line's final form carries 525, well clear of Riolu's 285, and 525 lands right on the typical final-stage mark near 509. Build around the Sp. Atk, patch whichever defense the team needs more, and let the aura do the rest.
In practice the weak list is three entries long and two of them are common: Fire and Fighting show up everywhere, Ground less so. The resist side is where the value stacks up — Normal, Grass, Ice, Bug, Rock and Dragon all land soft, and Poison lands not at all. Find it one partner that eats Fire moves and the defensive brief is finished. From there it is mostly upside: the resist list does the holding, and the offenses do the finishing.
The rule of thumb: lead with the special side until the matchup argues otherwise, save the close-quarters moves for the fights that reward them, and keep it away from anything carrying a Fire move. Lucario rewards players who read the field — the spread gives it an answer for most of the chart, and the rest is just picking the right turn to commit.
In a Nuzlocke the question is simple: does it survive the next route and pay the debt back? Roll the run in the Nuzlocke Team Builder, and draw replacements from the Random Pokemon Picker when a slot opens mid-route. When two options will not separate themselves, the Pokemon Wheel Spinner calls it. On a finished team it slots in as the flexible attacker: special by default, physical when the matchup begs for it.
Lucario plays both halves of a route: read the matchup, then pick a side — physical with Close Combat, or ranged with Aura Sphere. The Pokemon Team Picker shows which build the six actually needs, and the Random Mega Pokemon Generator digs out Mega Lucario if Mega Evolution is on the table. Shiny hunters can find the odds on Pokemon Shiny Odds and the roll on the Random Shiny Pokemon Generator. The Blog keeps the longer guides on natures, odds and challenge rules.
FAQ
Lucario is a Fighting and Steel dual type: doubled damage from Fire, Fighting and Ground, half damage from Normal, Grass, Ice, Bug, Rock, Dragon, Dark and Steel, and a full immunity to Poison. That is the entire defensive picture, and it is one of the best cards in the dex for it.
Fire, Fighting and Ground, all at double damage. Poison does nothing at all, and the resist list runs eight names deep. Re-check the matchup card before a gym, a rival battle, or any fight that actually matters.
Riolu becomes Lucario, and that is the whole line — two stages, one evolution, no branches. The typing changes at the step: Riolu is pure Fighting, while Lucario adds Steel, which reshuffles the whole matchup card at once. Evolution is permanent, so the Steel typing is a commitment, not a phase.
Steadfast and Inner Focus come standard, and Justified is the hidden pick — three abilities with three different messages: Steadfast rewards taking a flinch, Inner Focus prevents one, and Justified turns a Dark hit into an Attack boost. Hidden abilities take special routes to find, so most runs meet the first two. Build for the ability you actually have.
Two boxes and one arrow: Riolu on the left, Lucario on the right, and the evolution method in between. Riolu's 285 becomes Lucario's 525 the moment its friendship is high enough.
Sp. Atk 115 is the highest number in the spread, and Attack 110 is close enough that both are real options — the special side just has the better default. Everything else on the card exists to keep those two reachable. If the team needs a physical answer, Attack 110 is a real stat, not a formality.
