Pokemon Legends: Arceus shiny odds
Legends Arceus starts at the modern 1 in 4,096 base, then layers research bonuses on top: raising a species' Pokedex research to level 10 moves it to 1 in 2,048, and a perfect research page improves that to 1 in 1,024. The Shiny Charm — earned by reaching research level 10 on every species — adds three more rolls on its own, and all of it stacks. The real stars are mass outbreaks: an outbreak alone jumps to roughly 1 in 158, and a perfect-dex outbreak with the Charm active reaches 32 rolls per spawn, the famous 1 in 128 — the best odds any mainline game has ever offered. The rarer massive mass outbreaks trade rate for volume at about 1 in 315 base, covering a whole map at once.
Pokemon Let's Go shiny odds
Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee run on the catch combo system. The base rate is 1 in 4,096, and chaining catches of the same species is everything: at a 31+ combo the odds hit 1 in 341, with the Shiny Charm they reach 1 in 273, and adding a Lure on top squeezes out 1 in 256. The combo only counts consecutive catches of one species — run from everything else and never let the chain break. Because shinies appear in the overworld before you touch them, a combo hunt is mostly about patience and route planning.
Scarlet & Violet shiny odds
Scarlet and Violet keep the 1 in 4,096 base and offer three stackable boosts. The Shiny Charm (complete the Paldea dex) triples the rate to 1 in 1,365, a Sparkling Power level 3 sandwich gives 1 in 1,024 for thirty minutes, and clearing 60 or more Pokemon in a mass outbreak lifts that outbreak to 1 in 1,365. All three together reach 1 in 512 — the ceiling for the modern mainline games outside Legends Arceus. Note that sandwiches do not affect eggs; breeding hunts use the Masuda Method instead.
Sword & Shield shiny odds
Sword and Shield use the standard 1 in 4,096 base with the Shiny Charm at 1 in 1,365. The games also track how many times you have battled each species — hitting 500 battles with one species quietly adds extra rolls, and combined with the Charm the community-measured rate lands around 1 in 455. Gen 8 also introduced square shinies, a rarer sparkle variant: in the wild, a shiny has a 1-in-16 chance of the square animation, which makes a full-odds square shiny effectively a 1-in-65,536 event.
Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl shiny odds
BDSP stay faithful to the originals with a 1 in 4,096 base and the Shiny Charm at 1 in 1,365. Their signature method is the Poke Radar: chaining encounters in the tall grass builds shiny patches, and at the maximum chain of 40 the odds reach about 1 in 99 per patch — technically the strongest repeatable rate in any Switch-era game, though chains break easily and take real practice to maintain.
Pokemon GO shiny odds
Pokemon GO plays by its own rules. Most wild species sit at roughly 1 in 500, permanently boosted species like Onix and Sneasel sit closer to 1 in 64, and legendary raid shinies are around 1 in 20. Community Days slam a featured species to roughly 1 in 25 for a few hours. There is no charm or chaining — rates are set per species and per event, which is why GO hunters live and die by the event calendar.
